We are a group of child neurologists and nurse practitioners who provide evidence-based, empathetic, thoughtful and high-quality care to children with neurological conditions. We share collegial relationships with other specialists at CHM and our neurosurgical colleagues, which allows us to work collaboratively in complex clinical situations. We have access to cutting edge imaging including 3-T MRI, PET scanners, low-radiation CTs and work closely with highly trained pediatric neuroradiologists. Our physicians are contributors to peer-reviewed medical journals, board-certified in several sub-specialties within chid neurology and active in academic medicine.
The Pediatric Neurology and Neurosurgery programs at Children’s Hospital Michigan have been ranked among the nation’s Best Children's Hospitals by U.S. News and World Report for the last 10 years. The Division has faculty expertise across the spectrum of child neurology including epilepsy, autism, neurogenetics, neuroimaging and neuromuscular disease. Children’s Hospital of Michigan is recognized by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers as a Level 4 Epilepsy Center, the highest designation, which recognizes expertise in the medical and surgical evaluation and treatment of patients with complex seizure disorders.
Our pediatric neurology specialists work in close collaboration with Children' Hospital of Michigan pediatric neurosurgeons as well as primary care physicians, pediatric radiologist, intensivists and other appropriate specialists. Care is multidisciplinary, collaborative and family centered. The pediatric neurology program is supported by advanced neuroimaging, which is vital for accurate diagnosis and precise treatment of pediatric neurological diseases.
Directed by Dr. Lalitha Sivaswamy, the Pediatric Neurology division consists of ten fellowship trained child neurologists, four specialized Nurse Practitioners and six specialized Nurses. The division is actively involved in research and in 2020, the physicians published over 20 papers in peer reviewed journals.
All child neurologists have faculty appointments at Central Michigan University School of Medicine and are actively involved in teaching medical students, residents and fellows. Our ACGME approved child neurology residency program trains 2-3 residents per year.
