Addiction is a disease that often develops during vulnerable teen years. Furthermore, those with a substance use disorder also struggle with other mental health disorders and need therapy to treat conditions simultaneously. University Pediatricians has opened the new Adolescent Addiction Recovery Center (AARC) in partnership with The Children's Foundation to provide comprehensive, therapy-focused substance use disorder treatment programs for youth and adolescents under the age of 18.
Located within the Children’s Hospital of Michigan - Troy building, the AARC program's directive is to support and provide treatment to youth struggling with substance use disorders and addiction. We specialize in treating severe cases of substance use disorder and dangerous substance use including:
AARC provides life-saving substance use treatments for those in need, and becomes a vital lifeline for young people and their families. We offer treatment without the need for insurance or ability to pay.

There is opportunity for medical students, residents, and fellows to rotate in the clinic, yet this has not been fully discussed. Staff will continue with regular, formal continued education in the field of addiction and adolescent mental health.
There are plans to incorporate observational research and publish on outcomes. Further collaboration could include RCTs if there is support.
Director of the AARC
Dr. Matthew LaCasse was born and raised in Southeast Michigan. He completed his undergraduate studies as well as medical school at Michigan State University. He went on to become a general psychiatrist and then further specialized in both child and adolescent psychiatry, as well as addiction psychiatry. He is one of a few dozen people in the country to hold these qualifications. He is passionate about adolescent and young adult addiction treatment and is the director of the new Adolescent Addiction Recovery Center at Children's Hospital of Michigan, Troy.
Marlene Joshi has her Master of Arts in Counseling from Wayne State University and is a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor. She has 10 years of experience as a counselor, manager, and eventually director at a residential alcohol and drug facility in downtown Detroit. Marlene has a passion for helping those seeking to recover from the impact of substance use disorders and self-destructive behaviors.
