Hospital Medicine

University Pediatricians | Michigan

About the Division of Hospital Medicine

Hospitalists in the Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine are pediatricians who specialize in inpatient pediatrics and care for children requiring hospitalization for a variety of acute and chronic pediatric conditions. Pediatric hospitalists and nurse practitioners at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan (CHM) work in the Observation Unit as well as on three hospital floors, to provide comprehensive and efficient care to patients and families, from admission to discharge.

The division staffs three inpatient teams, two observation unit teams and provides education to residents and medical students throughout the year. The teams may consult and get input from pediatric subspecialists, in order to provide comprehensive care to patients and their families throughout their hospitalization. Hospitalists provide inpatient consultations to surgical specialists and also communicate with outside physicians when children need to be transferred to CHM from outside facilities.

Hospitalists possess the expertise and experience to develop best-practices care pathways, and contribute to system improvements in patient safety and quality. Hospitalists at CHM, working collaboratively with the hospital, are committed to delivering safe, effective, and efficient care while using evidence-based medicine within the family-centered care model.
